Why glass?

Why not try something new when it comes to enjoying wine?

Welcome to Cato & Co.

  • We want to give people a new way to enjoy wine.

  • Glassware has dominated dining tables for centuries, and rightly so: it's easy to clean, easy to replace, and doesn't alter flavours. However, we think it's time to add a new dimension to wine tasting. With our products we aim to open people's minds, and bottles, by providing a great visual alternative to wine glasses that can also enhance flavours.

Inspired by ancient winemaking techniques developed by the Romans and Greeks, we sought to bring ceramics back to the world of wine. After doing more research, we found that certain clays can positively interact with wine to give a smoother and fuller flavour.

Thus, Cato & Co was born.

  • We believe wine is for everyone.

  • Yes, there is a time and place for expensive and rare wines, served in pristine crystal glassware. But we also believe that wine is for the everyday, for those relaxed moments, for those ordinary occasions. And the same applies to people.

We believe wine doesn't belong to any one place, or any one nationality. It crosses social and cultural divides and brings people closer together. From sipping on a balanced Bordeaux in a fine restaurant, to gulping down an earthy Malbec alongside a takeaway curry, we believe true wine connoisseurs, the real ones, place enjoyment above all else. It doesn't matter who you are, where you're from, or even what you're eating, as long as you're enjoying yourself.

So what's with the name?

Cato the Elder was an ancient Roman senator who wrote about agriculture, cooking, and livestock amongst other things. We like him because although he was a statesman, he still placed great importance on the good things in life, like food and wine. We felt it was a nice nod to ancient winemaking and a great approach to life.
